Below are the different standards:

Up-Market:  There are quite a few up-market hotels in Kampala and they can be upward to 400 dollars for a double per night depending on the kind of room that you choose.

Moderate:  There is a difference between up-market and moderate, but moderate hotels are in-expensive, clean, often have nice restaurants and can range upward to around hundred dollars a night with breakfast being included.  Most will have dstv, phones, internet access and more.

Budget:  Is somewhere between 20 and 50 dollars per night for a double with breakfast.  This is the kind of hotel often used by people living here.  They are en-suite, sometimes a balcony. Food in the restaurant is mostly Ugandan.  You can get a decent steak with chips (french fries), but if you are from USA ask for brown chips, since here they are often too soft to what westerners are used to.

Vegetarians will have not too much of a problem in up-market or moderately prices hotels since there are many Indians who live here and are vegetarian, so hotels have come up with alternate menus for vegetarians.
