See the Gentle Giants up close – a once in a life time experience at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
No visit to Uganda is complete without taking a Mountain Gorilla Safari at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the south-west region of Uganda where the largest group of Mountain Gorillas can be found today and viewed in a safe and secure environment.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and its gorillas are simple the most sought after experience sought after in Uganda. There is a greater cost involved because the permits are $500 each and at times become harder to obtain. The cost of permits and lodging are fixed but the price of total safari can be reduced the number of people that are on the safari.
3 Day Gorilla Safaris are the most popular ones, however many people add on another National Park in the same region such as Queen Elizabeth with its wildlife, Kibale Forest with its chimpanzees, or Lake Mburo on the return to Kampala trip:
Day One: Leave Kampala at an early hour for Bwindi which is a 9 hour to 10 hour drive depending on conditions. Drive toward Bwindi and stop to take lunch at Mbarara, bottled water included on journey, lunch is also included, drinks with meals are not covered.
Arrive at your lodging during late afternoon and check-in. Dinner at the lodging which can be tented camp, hotel, or bandas (cabins) depending on choice and availability.
Day Two: Have an early breakfast and be at Bwindi headquarters for orientation and meeting with guides. Off it is for the Mountain Gorilla tracking experience which can be quite rigorous. The forest has many special trees unique to it, there are other mammals, bird and butterflies and of course the views are breathtaking. The tracking experience can be from a few hours to all day, but always rewarding. You will get within 5 meters of the gorillas and quietly observe them.
Afterwards it is a return to headquarters depending on time and your energy level a village walk, where Mountain Gorilla At Bwindi Forestyou will see traditional ways, from brewing of beer to remedies made from the forest. There will be some dancing and entertaining and it is certainly worth your while.
Day Three: It is breakfast and check-out with a packed lunch we will be on our way to Kampala. Near the end of the journey we will stop off at the equator in Masaka and you can take some pictures of you standing on the equator.
Reach Kampala during the late afternoon or early evening with memories of the Uganda Mountain Gorilla Safari you just went on.
