A Safari is simply a journey.  We invite to a different kind of Safari, a Safari that will be life changing for you and impact the lives of others.

Sara, a volunteer from San Francisco, USA12 Days in Uganda that will be with you for the rest of your life.  12 Days of working in a community with need, working amongst children building schools, homes for poor and or sanitary facilities.  We can provide you a total project which can include a project such as mentioned above or simply volunteer working in a school or hospital during your stay here in Uganda. We can accommodate work teams from 1 to 50 or even more.  This is perfect for groups such as from churches or civic organizations, schools or University or simply a group of common minded friends.

Below is an outline of a sample Volunteer Work Trip Safari to Uganda:

Day One:  Arrive at Entebbe Airport and you will be met by our staff, we load your luggage and supplies into the vehicle and head for Kampala to the residence guest house where you will be staying for mosWelcome to Ugandat of your stay while in Uganda.

We provide you with secure lodging where you in most cases will have breakfast and dinner, have your laundry done and have a comfortable and very clean room.  The staff is trained in meeting the needs of Teams and will care for all of your needs while you are in Uganda.

If you are arriving during morning or afternoon hours we will transport you to the guest house where you will be staying, settle in with some refreshments have an evening get together where we will get you acquainted with Uganda, the tasks at hand answer questions that you might have.  You will also meet the Ugandan staff that will be working with you.  Ability to purchase sim cards in order to make local and international calls.

Day Two:  Breakfast, pack a lunch and depart for worksite where we will familiarize you with what tasks are in store for you.  This can range from a building a house for a needy family who without that Working Safari for Volunteershelp who live in squalor, work in a school, medical facility or an orphanage.  You will remain at worksite until 5pm when you will return to guesthouse for dinner and rest for the night with a time for team reflection and sharing impressions for that day.

Day Three:  Breakfast and once again pack  a lunch and depart for worksite where you will continue where you left off the day before and return back to to Guesthouse at 5 pm.  After dinner a walk to a nearby restaurant for ice-cream and the purchase of items you might need at grocery store.

(If any day falls on Sunday, we will take a break from work, attend a Ugandan Church and have breakfast brunch afterwards in a Kampala Restaurant )

Day Four:  Breakfast and packing of lunch and spend the day at worksite.  That evening after dinner we have a group of children who dance, sing and play various Ugandan instruments perform for you.  One of the highlights of your trip here to Uganda.Bujagali Falls Rafting

Day Five:  Breakfast and a break from the routine for a trip to the town of Jinja, two hours from Kampala.  We pass through the famous Mabira Forest and participants have a choice between “white water rafting on the Nile, which has various experiences from beginner to the dare devil, all safe, but at times it is wilder than a roller coaster ride. Lunch on an Island on the Nile for rafters.

Others that choose not to raft will visit the Source of the Nile, a baby orphanage, lunch in a restaurant overlooking the Nile and a walk around town and a visit to a local craft market.

A visit to Bujagali Falls and meeting up with the rafters and a BBQ before returning to Kampala for the evening for rest at guesthouse.

Day Six:  Breakfast at the guesthouse, packing of lunch and returning to worksite.  Before returning to guesthouse a stop off at local shopping center for some supplies you might need.

Day Seven:  Breakfast at the guesthouse, pack lunch and off to the worksite.  Return back for dinner, team reflection and rest.

Day Eight:  Breakfast at the guesthouse, and a day in Kampala with visit to the Kasubi Tombs, the famous burial site of the Kabakas or Kings of the Buganda Kingdom, Martyr’s Shrine where twenty some pages to the Kabaka were executed for their refusal to renounce their Christian Faith.

We then proceed back to Kampala to Nakasero Food Market, the Taxi Parks, amazing site, then to Owino Market, one of Africa’s largest 2nd hand clothing market with hundreds of merchants, Lunch in town, visit to a craft market for souvenirs, then the National Museum with its thousands of Ugandan artifacts, Namirembe and Lubaga Cathedral and back home to guesthouse for dinner, reflection of the day and rest.

Day NiMurchison Falls Parkne:  A very early Breakfast and it is a Uganda Wildlife Safari at Murchison Falls Park.  We leave at 6 am and head toward Masindi and onward to Murchison Falls Park.  Arrive at the lodging and have lunch overlooking the Nile.  A time of rest and then it is the first game drive in the late afternoon seeing what the country gifted by nature has to offer.  Lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, giraffes, warthogs, baboons and much more.  Afterwards it is dinner and a sleep.

Day Ten:  Early Breakfast and a morning game drive viewing more animals and catching up on some that might have been on first day. A most wonderful experience for you.  Then return to lodge for a break and lunch and then one of the major highlights of the safari, a boat ride on the Nile, viewing animals on shore and in the water, hippos, crocodiles, birds in abundance and more Elephants, buffaloes and of course the bottom of the famous Murchison Falls with all its majestic, raw power surging down 43 meters.

Return to the lodging and dinner rest and reflection of the day.

Day Eleven:  Early breakfast and check out.  A visit to the top of Murchison Falls. We then head off toGiraffes at Murchison Falls Park Kampala and stop off at Masindi for Lunch.  We continue on to Kampala and reach it in late afternoon.

That Evening we have a goodbye and celebration dinner with Ugandan staff in a local restaurant.

Day 12:  Depending on flight we depart for Entebbe airport for flight back home.

Lake Mburo National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Bwindi National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Eight days inclusive Safari taking in various National Parks in the southwest region of the Pearl of Africa – Uganda. This Safari covers four National Parks in 5 days, choose budget, moderate or up-market accommodations.

Day One:  Leave Kampala after breakfast for Lake Mburo which is just 3 1/2 hours from Kampala. We stop off in Masaka for a visit to the equator where you can take pictures.

Lake Mburo HippoProceed onward to  Lake Mburo National Park which is one of the few National Parks in Uganda where Zebras are found.  At Lake Mburo National Park you will either stay in an up-market tented camp or bandas (huts) for budget facility.  Lunch at your lodging and then a boat cruise on the Lake viewing of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, waterbuck and bushbuck.  A relaxing time for you with lots of opportunities for pictures.

Late afternoon game drive through acacia tree studded savannas, marshes, lakes viewing various game animals from leopards to zebras as well as buffaloes, antelopes, birds, monkeys and more. A great introduction to Uganda’s Wildlife.

Return to your lodging and dinner as you watch the sun set.

Day Two:  Breakfast and we depart for Queen Elizabeth Park and the Mweya area where we will be arriving at lunch time and you will either be staying at Mweya Lodge or the Hostel facility for budget.

After lunch and a break we drive to the Kazinga Channel to take a motorized cruise of the channel viewing the multitude of animals and birds Kazinga Channel Birdsfound there.  Keep your eyes wide open and you camera ready.  You will see a multitude of birds, including pelicans, of course you will see a more hippos concentrated in that channel than anywhere else in Africa. On the shore there will be wildlife of all kinds that come to the water.  The channel boat ride is one of the highlights of the Queen Elizabeth National Park experience.

After the launch trip you return to your lodging for dinner and rest.

Day Three:  Early breakfast and off to the first game drive of the day.  This is the a three hour adventure, sure not to disappoint you.  Lions, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, baboons, monkeys, antelopes and views that are fabulous.  At the end of the drive we return to the lodging facility for lunch and rest.

Queen Elizabeth Park Crater LakeLate afternoon it is the second game drive of the day.  More animals to be seen and picture opportunities of lions, elephants, giraffes and much more.  Almost six hours for the day out on a game drive.  Animals that most have only seen in zoos and all against the backdrop of the distant snow covered Rwenzori Mountains.

Dinner back at your lodging and rest.

Day Four:  Breakfast and off to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of Ugandan Mountain Gorillas that dwell therein. We drive through the Ishasha region of Queen Mountain Gorilla at BwindiElizabeth Park and might even see some of tree climbing lions from the road.  We reach Bwindi in time for lunch, during the afternoon we go off to a local Batwa pigmy village and observe some of the customs and preparations of herbal medicine, local brew, food, and watch them perform some of their dances.  Back to the lodging of your choice for dinner and rest.

Day Five:  Breakfast and off to the Park Headquarters at Bwindi Inpenetrable Forest for the Mountain Gorilla Tracking experience.  After a brief orientation you are assigned to a team and a ranger to take you to where the gorillas are.  This can last from a few hours to an all day hike.  It is a rugged terrain you will be passing through and one needs to be reasonably fit and healthy to do so.  Get within  a few meters of these magnificent gorillas and observe them and take pictures while being so close.

After the tracking experience we return back to the lodging for food and rest.

Day Six:  Breakfast at your lodging and we check out and head for Kibale Forest with is fabulous Chimpanzees.  Checking at the lodging around Chimpanzeeslunch time and have some lunch and a break from travel.  Close to sunset it is off for a nighttime walk with spotlights to track some nocturnal animals and monkeys.  This is a short walk and quite an experience.

Back to the lodging facility for dinner and rest.

Day Seven: Breakfast and off to the Park Headquarters where with your Uganda Wildlife Authority Guide you will be able to enjoy viewing animals, birds, plants and trees that you would miss otherwise.

Of course you are tracking chimpanzees and the chance of seeing them there is over 90%, since they are on the move from one place to another he knows where they have been the night before and will be able guide you near them for optimum viewing.

You return to your place of lodging for a delightful lunch and some rest reflecting on the chimpanzee tracking experience that just concluded.

Then off to Bigodi Wetlands Swamp for a walk around and see both mammals and birds in their setting.  This walk is almost as populaShoebill Storkr as the Kibale Forest Walk.  You will need good walking shoes since part of the walk will be quite muddy, the situnga antelope and hopefully the shoebill stork.  This is nothing to be missed.  There is also an abundance of butterflies found here.

We return to the lodging facility of your choice for dinner and rest

Day Eight:  An early Breakfast and check out and off to Kampala with lunch along the way, arriving in the early evening hours there.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest,  Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park

Seven days inclusive Safari taking in various National Parks in the southwest region of Uganda.  From start to finish, an unforgettable Safari, that will remain with you for a long time.

Day One:  Leave Kampala at an early hour for Bwindi which is a 9 hour to 10 hour drive depending on conditions.  Drive toward Bwindi and stop to take lunch at Mbarara, bottled water included on journey, lunch is also included, drinks , tips are not covered, but everything else is, including water while in vehicle.

Arrive at your lodging during late afternoon and check-in.  Dinner at the lodging which can be tented camp, hotel, or bandas (cabins) depending on choice and availability.

Day Two:  Have an early breakfast and be at Bwindi headquarters for orientation and meeting with guides.  Off it is for the Mountain Gorilla tracking experience which can be quite rigorous.  The forest has many special trees unique to it, there are other mammals, bird and butterflies and of course the views are breathtaking.  The tracking experience can be from a few hours to all day, but always rewarding.  You will get within 5 meters of the gorillas and quietly observe them.

Afterwards it is a return to headquarters depending on time and your energy level a village walk, where you will see traditional ways, from brewing of beer to remedies made from the forest.  There will be some dancing and entertaining and it is certainly worth your while.

Day Three:  It is breakfast and check-out  and off to Queen Elizabeth Park at Mweya which is about a 5 hour drive or more depending on road conditions in time for lunch at Mweya lodge which is up-market or the hostel that is there at budget pricing. After check in and lunch a time of rest and maybe lounging at the pool at Mweya lodge or sitting in then shade with a cool drink at the hostel.

Then it is the evening game drive with many animals to be seen lions, hyenas, elephants, antelopes of all kinds, leopards, birds and of course the snow capped Rwenzori Mountains in the distance, simply beautiful, the savannas stretching further than the eye can behold and you will experience a beautiful African sunset.  This game drive will last up to three hours and cover quite a distance all in specially equipped safari vehicle so that you can stand up and take the best pictures possible.

Enjoy dinner back at your lodging facility and get a good nights rest.

Day Four:  Early morning breakfast and off for a morning game drive with lots more animals to view, another day where you will find the sun rise as you go in search of some of the most fantastic animals in Africa, just outside of your vehicle, you will traverse some different terrain with some extinct volcano craters which are now lakes where animals come to water. Simply fabulous is what other guests have said.

Return to your lodging for a break and for lunch.  After lunch it is off for a Kazinga Channel for a cruise of several hours viewing pelicans, more hippos than anywhere in Africa, view animals as they come to water and you will get some fantastic shots with your camera, of birds and animals.

This is always one of the highlights to Queen Elizabeth Park in Uganda and surely you will find it the same. Return to your lodging for dinner and rest for the night.

Day Five:  Breakfast at your lodging and off to Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee tracking.  You will get within 5 meters of them, they move nightly but your guide is experienced in their ways and will lead you to a group of them.  Afterwards it is off to Maramagambo Forest where you will partake in a packed lunch and then a  walk to a large bat cave where a large number of bats are present.

We slowly drive back to the lodging and view animals along the way.  Dinner and rest at your lodging.

Day Six:  Breakfast  at your lodging and check out, then we proceed to Lake Mburo where you will either stay in an up-market tented camp or bandas (huts) for budget facility.  Lunch at your lodging and then a boat cruise on the Lake viewing of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, waterbuck and bushbuck.  A relaxing time for you with lots of opportunities for pictures.

Late afternoon you will be on a guided game walk with a armed Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger around the salt lick where many animals congregate in the late afternoon and early evening.  Another opportunity for great picture taking.  This is also one of the few places in Uganda where large amounts of zebras are to be found.

Back to your lodging…the up-market tented camp we use has an excellent view from the restaurant of a watering hole where you can watch animals come and still their thirst.  Enjoy dinner and rest.

Day Seven:  Early morning breakfast and a game drive through Lake Mburo Park viewing many animals and birds.  You will love the Acacia Tree covered landscape and it will be feast for your eyes and ears.

Afterwards we depart for Kampala and stop off at Masaka for lunch for a visit to the equator for picture taking and then observing the famous Masaka Drum makers as they create these musical instruments.  You can even buy one or two and take it with you.

We reach Kampala during the afternoon.

Mountains and Mountains and lots more mountains, snow covered peaks, glaciers on the equator, yet there are two factors that prevent many people from visiting this fantastic, tallest mountain range in all of Africa – Time and Money.  In most cases people take a 7 day journey through the mountains can cost just for the hike and fees over 700 dollars USD per person.  That does not include the transport and extra things needed.  We get many requests for the Rwenzori mountains but the price and the time factors involved limit people from enjoying this fabulous region of Uganda, plus you will need a lot of less equipment and supplies.

Physical fitness is needed, Rwenzori is more challenging than the Kilimanjaro hike.

Day one:  We leave Kampala early in the morning and head off for Fort Portal the gateway to our excursion into the Rwenzori Mountains, or also referred to as the Mountains of the Moon.  The ride will take us through an ever changing Ugandan countryside where you will see the Pearl of Africa in an up-close manner.  Lunch along the way which is included in the price.  We offer free bottled water during the journey.  We reach Fort Portal in the late afternoon and check in to Up-Market, moderate or budget accommodations.  Dinner at the place where you are lodging.

Day Two:  We have an early breakfast, check our equipment, clothing and hiking shoes, take backpack and drive up to an altitude of 1,650 ,meters at the Kazingo Trading Center.  That is our trailhead.

We begin our journey upward to 3000 meter elevation, through bamboo forests, and other vegetations, seeing various monkeys, birds and different plants along the way.  We take our packed lunch at Kighomu community campsite where chimps are nearby, so the locals tell you, but quite hard to find.

From the ridge of our climb it will take us two hours to climb down to the town of Bundibugyo where we spend the night with dinner and rest at the Vanilla Hotel.

Day Three:  Breakfast and depart for Semliki National Park with its unmatched scenery and visiting Sempaya Hotsprings , we will  take some short hikes, visit a pygmy village and view game and birds along the ay.

Lunch at Semliki, then we enjoy the hot springs and journey back to Fort Portal for our stay.

Day three can be excluded and we can head back to Kampala on that day depending on your schedule or add another venue on day three.

Day Four:  We have breakfast and head back to Kampala reaching there in the early evening hours.

A Safari is something westerners usually watch on television specials such as National Geographic’s.
